Costa Rica

Spider monkey rehabilitation and rainforest conservation—our most ambitious project yet.

Project · Spider Monkey Sanctuary

Building a Home for Rescued Spider Monkeys

In Costa Rica we worked to help spider monkeys. This species formerly was abundant all over Costa Rica. Now, due to hunting and deforestation, it is restricted to areas with patches of forest large enough to sustain its troop size.

Because the spider monkey is one of the largest New World primate species, it is more vulnerable to hunting—and its populations have been severely impacted as a result.

Our Partnership

We worked with the Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary to build a huge enclosure for rescued spider monkeys. The center rescues injured spider monkeys—but didn't have a large enough enclosure for the number of monkeys they rescue.

We worked hard to raise the funds needed to build an enclosure large enough to rehabilitate injured monkeys so they can eventually be released back into the wild.

✅ Goal Met!

We met our fundraising goal and the enclosure was completed.

What do you think of it?

We are so proud to say that we met our fundraising goal and that the enclosure was completed. Rescued spider monkeys in Costa Rica now have a proper home to recover in before returning to the rainforest.

Sending City Kids to the Rainforest

Beyond the enclosure project, we also facilitated a day-long wildlife field trip for 16 youth from Lifting Hands—an inner-city learning center in San José—to the Kids Saving the Rainforest sanctuary in Quepos.

None of the kids had ever left San José or seen a rainforest before. The experience was life-changing.
